Week 1 - Introduction

Introduction and Discussion of the Supermodel: The Arch7112 Course outline fully explained. Studio tutor to discuss the expectations of the studio against the background of the Arch 7111 course outline. Questions and answers between the studio tutor and the students.
Introduction to Submission 1: overview of the outputs required and the assessment framework for this assignment via the feedback and review sheet; blue foam modelling tutorial.
Independent study: complete set tutorials; rebuild blue foam model in sketchup, create a 2d version of the digital model using slicer, slice modeller, or the unfold tool; upload screen capture time-lapse (Chronolapse).

Learning SketchUp (New to sketchUp)
Probably spent about 2 hours on the "Getting Started" videos. Nice and simple.... I'm more worried about the curve lines and cut outs that's in the foam model.

I guess I will give it ago, if it doesn't work out I may make a new foam model that's easier for me to model just so I can get a general idea on how to use the slicer and create dwg for the laser cut.

So I started to model my blue foam model.

I basically created a box and extruded the box. From there sketched the large face end on one side and deleted the area. As you can see the other end is slightly small, so I scaled it down a bit. I use mainly the Bezier Curve Plugin for this.

What I'm having trouble is cutting some edges off and eliminating sections off faces. Suggestions?

Day 2 - Slicer Plugin Attempt
So I tried creating object to subtract from the model. Fail........

So I decided to test out slice plugin. First time round was a bit of a fail. Didn't realise it would take ages for it to process 400 slice, so I ended the process and adjusted the setting. Second attempt was a better success. I was even able to export as a dwg file and imported into illustrator.

Now I need to figure out the scales and sizes, so I don't waste materials.

Attempt 1 - Fail
Attempt 2 - Success?

Note to myself: Ask someone about cutting shapes out of my created model.

Day 3 - Cleaning up .dwg file and importing to illustrator.
Well this took some time to clean.. and it was only 40 slices. I can imagine it been quite boring if there was more slices. Wonder if there's a more efficient way. (anyone?)

Just cleaning up the dwg file. (boring)

I had trouble importing ("place") into illustrator laser cut template. I solved the problem by saving my dwg as a Autocad 2007 version, as I'm using Autocad 2011.

I imported the lines and text separately so I can apply different line type. Red - line to cut; Blue - score material.

Importing into Illustrator.

Notice I added music to my videos.... awesome...!

Question - for the laser cut material, does it have to be 900mm x 600mm or can it be larger than that? I'm asking because I have materials large than that and I'm wondering if I need to cut them to size or not.
